The primary role of the Early Childhood Specialist (ECS) is to provide services to Great Start Readiness (GSRP) staff in local school districts, public school academies, and community programs for at risk 4-year olds, including developmental screening and child assessment, Program Quality Assessment-Revised (PQAR), professional development and collaborative consultation with staff, agency personnel, and administrators.

 

DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:   Assistant Superintendent for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development required.
  2. A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a ZA/ZS endorsement preferred.
  3. A Bachelor’s Degree in education, child development or related field.
  4. Demonstrate ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and constituents both individually and as members of teams.
  5. Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree in related field.
  2. Five or more years of relevant experience including preschool classroom teaching; preference given to a candidate with GSRP experience.
  3. Knowledge and experience working with groups of young children and adults.
  4. Experience working with adults in a coaching role.
  5. Training in and experience with research-based preschool curricula and knowledge of Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Pre-K (ECSQ-PK); formal training in Creative Curriculum preferred.
  6. Training certifications and/or experience in administering assessments such as the Program Quality Assessment-Revised (PQAR) preferred.
  7. Take initiative and work independently when given a variety of responsibilities and assigned tasks.
  8. Demonstrate effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, and ability to communicate and share information. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  1. Fulfill essential responsibilities of the Early Childhood Specialist as identified in the MDE GSRP implementation manual.
  2. Support GSRP teachers with the chosen curriculum, assessment, screening tool, and with licensing and program implementation.
  3. Conduct program evaluation using the Program Quality Assessment-Revised (PQAR) and assist teachers in developing and monitoring program quality improvement goals.
  4. Review children’s files and enrollment documentation.
  5. Meet with teachers and appropriate administrators to review assessment results and develop goals and related improvement plans, including plans for professional development.
  6. Coach and mentor classroom teachers to carry out improvement goals.
  7. Assist teachers with completing all GSRP documentation required by the Michigan Department of Education and the Macomb ISD.
  8. Conduct professional development around early childhood learning domains such as early literacy, mathematics, social emotional development, physical wellbeing, etc.
  9. Foster positive relationships with local school districts and community agencies.
  10. Perform other related tasks as directed by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer.

SALARY:         Grant Funded $35.00/hour
