QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. B.S. degree in Occupational Therapy.
  2. National and/or state license registration.
  3. Experience with infants and young children, plus knowledge in child growth and development.
  4. Ability to communicate and work positively with young children, other professionals and parents.
  5. Knowledge of a variety of occupational therapy techniques with young children.
  6. Knowledge of psychomotor and readiness assessment tools.
  7. Experience working with families in home-based and center programs.
  8. Knowledge of adaptive equipment.
  9. Work experience and/or educational background with early childhood, physically impaired and cognitively impaired preferred.
  10. Experience in the acquisition and maintenance of data, both computerized and hard copy.
  11. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to varied responsibilities and work locations.
  12. Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.

 

ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO: 

  1. Organize and set up an effective occupational therapy program for families and their children.
  2. Instruct families, individually and in small groups, to work with their children in the areas of gross and fine motor skills, perceptual skills, feeding, dressing and hygiene.
  3. Act as liaison between school districts, physicians, families Early On and agencies regarding the occupational therapy needs of students with special needs.
  4. Work as an effective member of a transdisciplinary team which includes teacher, physical therapist, audiologist, speech therapist outside agency personnel and parents.
  5. Work effectively and cooperatively with other Human Service Agencies in implementing children’s IFSPs.
  6. Work effectively with parents and emphasize parent training as an integral part of each child’s regularly scheduled therapy sessions.
  7. Construct and adapt occupational therapy equipment to meet the needs of the individual child.
  8. Teach and instruct teachers, therapists, other professionals and parents in the proper handling and techniques for the child with special needs.
  9. Evaluate students’ needs and provide appropriate services. 
  1. Participate in ongoing evaluation as directed.
  2. Provide educational programs to young children and their parents.
  3. Attend IEP/IFSP meetings as appropriate.
  4. Keep appropriate lesson plans, attendance records, Medicaid records, progress notes and annotations; develop and write IFSP/IEP plans/objectives in cooperation with parents, other professionals and outside agency personnel. Develop and update child and family plans, objectives periodically to see that the skills are being acquired and needs are being met.
  5. Accept other assignments as determined by the Director.

 

WORK YEAR:         186 day calendar

LOCATION:            To be determined

 

SALARY:      Direct Service and Degree Specialist salary schedule as per the MIFT Master Agreement.
