Substitute Paraprofessional
MISD Programs are designed to improve each student’s ability to function independently. We are a regionally educational service agency serving the public, parochial and charter schools within Macomb County.
Substitute paraprofessionals are vital to the daily operation and efficiency of all school programs. The opportunities for assignments are based on absences of regular employees to bridge the gap with their willingness, efficiency and adaptability.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School graduate; experience working with students with special needs preferred.
- Community college credit or successful completion of the Work Keys Assessment preferred.
- Cooperative, positive and flexible in student/staff relationships.
- The ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Patience and the ability to respond appropriately to challenging behavior.
- The ability to lift and balance 40-60 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Must pass criminal background history check as required by School Safety Legislation.
ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- Familiarity with location of district schools; responsibilities will be based on the needs of the students.
- Arrive at the assigned school building early enough to perform the following duties:
- Report directly to the Main Office upon arrival; please be aware of the start/end times for each location;
- Notify office personnel of assignment and name of absent paraprofessional that you are filling in for;
- Leave completed timesheet, with signature, in the school office.
3. Assist the classroom teacher with the following:
- Maintaining and operation of the classroom
- Supervising students throughout the school program
- Toileting children, including changing diapers
- Lunch Program
- Guiding students entering and exiting the building
- Other activities and/or duties as requested or assigned by the classroom teacher or building administrator
4. Must be willing to work at all MISD locations throughout Macomb County.
5. Willing to be on call at least three days per week.
6. Assignments will be available using the Red Rover (automated) system. Instructions on how to register, access and accept assignments for this system will be provided separately during the pre-employment process. Substitutes do not have set schedules.
WORK YEAR: Year round options depending on location/program

SALARY: $125.00 per day (for a full day assignment); or $17.86 per hour
UNION: Substitute paraprofessional positions are non-union
