QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
- A valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in cognitively impaired.
- Willingness to participate in all phases of the instructional program, including toilet training, diapering and clean up.
- Experience teaching the cognitively impaired.
- Ability to relate to students as individuals.
- Patience in instruction and the ability to be satisfied with seeing small increments in progress during the student's school year.
- Ability to respond appropriately to challenging behavior.
- The ability to lift and balance 40-60 pounds.
- Ability to provide leadership to paraprofessionals by communication, demonstration and example.
- Crisis Prevention Institute certification or willingness to obtain.
- Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.
ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- Plan curriculum for all assigned students, with assistance and direction from the principal and other professional personnel.
- Analyze and chart skills of students.
- Establish instructional and behavioral objectives for students; update objective periodically to see that skills are being acquired.
- Establish discipline techniques for classroom in accordance with school policies, as established by the principal and the ISD Special Education Division.
- Order equipment and supplies for classroom, under supervision.
- Cooperate in planning curriculum with other teachers of severely cognitively impaired classes and other professional personnel.
- Other assignments as determined by future course of events.
- Direct paraprofessionals responsible to the teacher in their classroom duties.

SALARY: Per Macomb Intermediate Federation of Teachers Master Agreement; credit for previous work experience considered; 2024-2025 salary range: $58,191 - $106,348
